Nuvon Welcomes Healthcare Technology and Biomedical Informatics Leader John Zaleski, PhD to Executive Team. - Blood Weekly

Nuvon, a leader in simplifying the management of healthcare technology with Nuvon's Point of Care ... Anywhere™ solutions that enable clinicians to focus on patient care and safety - not on technology, announced that John Zaleski, PhD, CPHIMS, has joined the company as Vice President of Clinical Applications and Chief Technology Officer (see also Nuvon, Inc.).

A nationally recognized leader in the field of biomedical informatics and healthcare technology, Dr. Zaleski brings to his new role at Nuvon extensive experience in designing, developing, and implementing clinical and non-clinical point of care applications for hospital enterprises.

'Nuvon's technology makes it possible to realize the vision that I have had for 15 years: patient management with point of care data available whenever and wherever it is needed,' said Dr. Zaleski. 'With Nuvon's capability to make integrated, real-time data from all devices available to the clinician in any setting, the healthcare system will realize tremendous improvements in patient care and patient safety, as well as significant savings through improved efficiencies.'

'Dr. Zaleski is a true visionary,' said Cathleen Asch, president and CEO of Nuvon. 'Long before the technology was viable, he focused on how to marry clinical decision-making and medical device communications to improve patient care through biomedical device integration. We're thrilled that he has joined Nuvon to help us make 'Point of Care ... Anywhere™' a reality for healthcare providers and patients around the world.'

A veteran executive at industry leaders Philips Research and Siemens Health Services USA, Dr. Zaleski has more than 23 years of experience in researching and bringing to market devices and products to improve healthcare. He holds four issued patents related to medical device interoperability, as well as more than 50 patent disclosures applied for and/or pending. Additionally, Dr. Zaleski is the author of numerous articles on information technology and medical devices, and wrote the first book published on integrating medical device data into electronic health records.

During his tenure with Philips Research North America, Dr. Zaleski oversaw more than 20 researchers and clinicians to manage the company's global research portfolio in biomedical informatics.

While at Siemens Health Services USA, he brought medical device information technology products from concept, through FDA clearance, to general commercial availability in the medical/surgical space.

A frequent speaker at national conferences on such topics as medical device connectivity and interoperability, Dr. Zaleski is also a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE).

Dr. Zaleski began his career in medical device connectivity while earning his PhD in Biomedical Systems Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania's School of Engineering and Applied Science. Through conducting clinical trials at the University's Medical Center, he developed a post-operative decision support method for weaning coronary artery bypass graft patients from mechanical ventilation. He earned his Master of Science and Bachelor of Science degrees in Aerospace Engineering from Boston University.

Nuvon will be exhibiting at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) annual meeting held in Atlanta, Georgia, March 1-4, in booth 2815.
